Math/Social Studies/P.E. 6TH Expectations 2017-2018 Veritas Elementary School Mrs. Heavey Welcome to 6th Grade Welcome to a new school year! I am excited and looking forward to working with you and your student. With your support, we can make this school year a success! This is OUR classroom and we are a TEAM! We must all work together in order to achieve our goals. My goals are to teach the sixth grade math standards in a safe, nurturing, and positive environment. All students are encouraged to have the following materials with them daily:
Objectives for Math/Social Studies: Students will learn Common Core 6th grade math standards. Textbook/Curriculum Readings: *Math: California Math McGraw-Hill Unit 1 Ratios and Proportional Relationships Unit 2 Number Systems Unit 3 Expressions and Equations Unit 4 Geometry Unit 5 Statistics and Probability *Physical Education: Game Day Activities, learn basic rules for basketball, volleyball, soccer. *Social Studies: Macmillan/McGraw-Hill-Ancient Civilization Classroom Policies: To be successful in the class I would like each student to follow these guidelines: · Bring a reading book daily to class as we will be silent reading in class and you will be reading at home daily with a parent’s signature to ensure you have read, returning it to school with you each day. (Reading Log) · Drinking water in class- There is a fountain in class, but if it is abused too much, the fountain will be off limits. So feel free to bring a water bottle to class for less distractions. · Bathroom Passes: You will get 3 passes weekly to use, if you do not use them they will be counted as bonus points toward each semester. · NO CELL PHONES/DEVICES in class. If I see them they are mine until the end of class or till the end of the day. Classroom Behavior Expectations: · Show Respect · Make Good Decisions · Solve Problems **If a student does not follow the rules they will receive a verbal warning. If the behavior continues they will receive an alternative choice/copy a “Behavior Check”. If it still continues then they will get a “DAR” (discipline action report) following the given consequence. At all times, I keep in close contact with parents/guardian about their child’s behavior regardless if they got a write up or not. Grades: Grades are based on a point system (94-100 A, 90-93 A-, 87-89 B+ etc…) Homework will be given nightly and have a reading log to be signed by a parent/guardian daily. You will be more informed as the year goes on, but you will see your child’s everyday progress online using “Parent Connect”. If your child is absent they will have the equal amount of days to complete the work that was missed. |
